I've been so cranky lately. Not sure why. Everything gets on my nerves. Even when I am in a good mood, my evil twin is only a moment away from making an appearance.

maybe it has something to do with the rut of my mundane existence:
get up
go to work
come home
make dinner
get the kid to bed
try to watch a tv show
fall asleep
go to bed
get up
go to work
.....
etc etc... you get the idea...

*sigh*

As for today, if you see me coming... run away... RUN AWAY!

Home Sweet Home

I love home days! Yes, it's true that occassionaly I have a day off. Today was one. Usually I work only a half day on Wednesdays, but today I had to take JMan and Samsam to the orthodontist, so I ended up with an entire day off, and not because V or I were sick! YAY! Such a luxury.

I can't beleive how much I can get done. And how much I can enjoy such simple things like sitting down to have a snack with V and listening to her weave up a story while we snack. (she does have a most active imagination and loves storytelling, but that is a whole other post!) Makes me long for more days like today.

But, these are the sacrifices I must make if we ever want to reach the goal of having our own home.

<<<<<<<<<<

These are the reasons why it's so important for us to have a home to call our own. A place that they can always count on being there for them. A place we can make our own, and their own.

yup

Jman got his braces off today. He's a happy happy guy!! New pictures will post later! Such a handsome young man he is!

It's good to be a mom!

The countdown

I love this picture of V. Even with the lunch on her sweater!
Negotiations for the job continue. I should know today what our final agreement is. Target start date: Wed., Apr. 25. I am very excited, as is the whole family. I am sure the kids (Jman, Lex and Sam-sam) are just thinking, "Whoo-hooo! We have the house to ourselves for 3 hours everyday!" I shudder at the thought. LOL! But, what they don't know is that their daily chore list will keep them pretty darn busy. Busy enough, to keep them out of too much trouble, but not so much that they can't be kids. Again, shudder!

I took Jman for his permit test yesterday. First we arrived there and realized that he did not have any ID with him. DOH! So back home we go. I could just hear the money sucking through the gas tank. When we returned, the wait wasn't too long, and Jman was feeling good and confident about the test. He failed by one question. He was feeling rather deflated afterwards. So, his testing fee allows him to write the test two times. So we will go back on Monday, after school. I felt bad for him, and even worse for our bank account with all these trips into town for this thing. Later, though, it seemed kind of comical, as D and I escaped the house for a little us time, we had to laugh at the whole thing. Anyway, I am sure he will pass it on Monday. After all, he now knows that the test will ask completely asinine and obscure questions.

Well... with only a week until I go back to work, I have much to do:

~~ organize a menu plan and pre-prepare as much as possible

~~ wade through a butt-load of papers to file and shred

~~ super-clean house from top to bottom, de-junking as much as possible as I go

~~ enjoy this last week as a SAHM with V.

~~ create chore lists, with detialed instructions so that I don't have to hear, "well I didnt know I had to do that" and then be forced to turn into evil 'how-many-times-do-I-have-to-beat-the-common-sense-into-you?' mom. (I mean really, why is it so hard for them to empty the garbage can when they see that it is full and the garbage they have just added has fallen onto the floor, they picked it back up, carefully balanced it on top, and then quickly closed the door so they can say, "oh I didnt know it fell off." AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH)

~~ plan vacation... LOL

... so off with me then.

EDIT:

As I was posting this, emails were flyin' at me!! So Wednesday it is!!! I am a working girl!

And my friend Questers read my blog and being the sweetheart that she is, sent my Vicki - without her lunch on her shirt!

bueller...... bueller

It turns out that the pulled muscle was really just a really bad cramped up muscle. I was able to eventually coax it to relax with some stretching and rubbing. But, in the meantime, let me tell you.... OW!

My body has been on a rebellion as of late. First cold and flu season kicked my butt a couple times. And there is always the headaches. Now, that last couple of days its been random pains on the left side of my head. These are not headache pains. They are on the surface. Like my nerves are tweaking out and it makes my skin feel a little like its been burned and it is very tender to touch. It started on my face. First my just below my left eye. Then it moved to just by my nose, then by my jaw, then to my ear... etc. etc. It never hurts in more than one place at once, but it hurts all the time. I have had this many times before. Usually the left side, occasionally on the right. Some years back, I had it happen once where the entire left side of my head felt that way for a few days. It was miserable. Strange indeed.

then last night my shoulder started aching. And as I sat rubbing it, wondering if I had done something to it, or am I just getting old, I had to laugh at myself. The last few days I have been an old woman. Complaining constantly about this hurting or that hurting. Lord help me and all those around me when my body really does start to fail. I'll be one of those little old ladies who, when asked how they are doing, will reply, "I've got corns on my feet, burrs in my hip joints, no used of my left arm... how do you think I am doing?". Please allow me to apologize in advance.

Moving on.... on my mind lately....

~ I was very excited about the job prospect when it first came up. So much so, that I was driving poor D crazy by phoning him and asking multiple times a day, if he had heard anything at work, had he talked to GM? I finally got my excitement under control. I have almost reached a level of indifference in my attitude. lol. ~

~ While watching a movie with D the other night... actually, he watched the movie, I crocheted... I was struck by one scene where the character had gone to visit his passed spouses grave. He took a chair and just sat there staring and missing her. The loneliness was astounding. I said to D, how hard and miserable it must be, for those who have no hope in eternity, to lose a spouse, or someone so close. To know you really will never see them again. I wouldn't wish that feeling on anybody. I am so thankful for the promise of salvation and eternity, so that even in death, there is still hope. ~

~ My 3 oldest kids are all starting to get so grown up. Jman is turning more and more into a man every day. There are many moments when I am just struck by how mature is he getting, and how my baby boy will only be with us for such a short time now. Lex is growing into quite a young woman. She has goals and confidence. And yet, there are so many flashes still of the little girl, just bucking up against the world, wanting nothing but to play and have fun. Sam is turning into a full-blown preteen. Our happy go lucky little sunshine girl is starting to get attitude, particularly when her friends are around. The drama is starting. *sigh* Lord help me that I have yet another girl to help guide through the tumultuous pre-teen and teen years if I manage to survive the ones I am currently dealing with. lol ~

~ Our van always starts when I turn the key. YAY!!!! Wasn't all that long ago when I never knew what would happen next I turned the key on my car. ~

~ V is bossy and stubborn, yet sweet and funny little thing. D and I find ourselves laughing, a lot, at things she has done and said throughout the day. ~

~ V thinks Jman is a "cool brother". He was so touched when he was playing with her yesterday, and she kept telling him that, that I swear I saw his eyes glistening! (and he didn't want ANOTHER sister) ~

~ We don't know, yet, what our landlords intentions are, but if they are sticking to their original plan, they will be putting the house up for sale this summer. that means we will be moving as soon as our lease is up in June. Unless they are willing to sign another one year lease, we won't be paying their mortgage while they try to sell our house, and then leave ourselves with that sense of panic when the house sells and we have 30 days to move out. ~

~ I like caffeine ~

~ I used to love to write, stories, poems or even just journalling about things, but lately I have nothing. At least not when I come to the computer to write. Oh sure, when I am laying in bed unable to sleep, listening to D snore, I have all these wonderful ideas swimming around in my head, but come morning light... nothing. I fear turning into a person who has no depth, and no original thought. SCARY! ~

~ I haven't been enjoying cooking much lately. Time to crack open a cookbook I haven't used in a long time and find something completely different to make. I always love when I bust into a new area of cooking and the kids and D all stare at it and poke at it, like children circling a dead thing, poking it with sticks, and question, "what is it?" "Food" is always my reply. Or sometimes, "it's the dinner that I spent the last three hours preparing for you that you are now going to eat, and eat with a smile on your face, or be sent away hungry and with my foot embedded in your hiney." ~

~ I have heard that Australia is suffering from its worst drought in decades. They are trying to figure out how to get mass amounts of water there before next years crops are lost. Australias main crop these days - grapes. Australian grapes get turned into Australian wine. No grapes, well you see where I am going with this. I am very upset about this. ~

~I leave you with this, which has been swirling around in my head recently....

Isaiah 40: 28 - 31
Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.

He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

I am amazing...

...Or at least, lucky. Everything seems fine now with Milo (my pc). It got worse before it got better. All of my programs were crashing. I debugged, cleaned up, defragged, scanned... to no avail. So I restarted in safe mode and ran a full scan with everyone of my anti-virus/anti-spamware programs. Not a single one of them found anything, but when I rebooted, voila! All better. I'm thinking there was something in my cache that was causing problems. Obviously nothing detectable by all my different scans, but something none the less. It seems to be gone now.

Still no news on the job. What they told me was this, their current employee has been performing poorly. She is currently on a 3 week probation and if things don't get better, its adios, she's outta there. Their (yes, the gm and department manager both interviewed me) indications were that they don't expect anything to change with current employee. GM also indicated that he has already made up his mind, but would like to follow procedure.

I'm excited about this opportunity, as I love office work, but having been out of the work force for a few years now, and having only limited experience previous to that, well, let's just say that if they were considering anyone else for this position right now, they wouldn't be shaking in their stylish yet inexpensive boots over competition with me. lol that was one huge run-on sentence!

Anyways, I am confident that I will soon be juggling a work and home schedule. I have already arranged care for V. The other kids are all excited about this. It is full-time. I am a little anxious about how this change will affect the kids, particularly V. I figure that if it is just too difficult for them/her, then I can always return home and try again later. But, I feel pretty good about it, too. V will be in great care, with people who love her and whom she loves already. Jman and Lex are ready to step up and help out around the house. Sam is excited for me and has offered to help out as well. If this all goes ahead, this means we could actually be able to get a home of our own, sooner than we thought. My hubby won't have to stress so much about looking after us all. Yay! So please pray for the job and a smooth transition into a new routine.

Things are otherwise good on the home front here. Been busy, and yet not. Taught Sammi how to loom knit last week. She has made a doll hat and is now working on a scarf for herself.

I am sure there are many more thoughts of actual significance in my brain, but they are trapped there, unable to escape until ingested caffeine has coursed its way through my veins to my brain to release them. (another very long sentence.. lol)

Life's soundtrack, Pt 3

So some music brings back memories of events, or phases of life... and some makes you think specifically of people.

Kristi - Anything by Madonna or Prince makes me think of her. But there is one that just screams... "MMMUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCKKKKKKKK" hehe....

Liz - well there are a few songs that bring Liz to mind... But nothing brings the memories screaming to the front of my mind like this song, which we listened to all the way to California and back!

Bro - so many 80's metal tunes could bring back memories of riding in his car to school, but I don't like any that music. LOL. But this.... ya.... this is a good tune and I think I borrowed (ahem) this album from him and possibly forgot to return it. Oops. Sorry bro. He taught me alot about music.

Jman - so young and yet so many memories. This song will forever remind me of my baby boy!!

Tanya - I havent seen her in a really really long time, but I still can't hear this song without thinking of her and all the time we spent in front of her stereo listening to this song on her blown speakers while she layed on the floor proclaiming how much she loved this song.

D - ah yes... my baby.... I will never forget as long as I live how the first day we met, this song came on and he got a smile from ear to ear and started dancin'. I wouldn't dance with him. But I couldnt help but smile, cuz he looked just so darn happy to be dancing!! (he can move too... woo hooo) I love that memory... although I don't like this song. lol. Although my baby loves the latin music... me, not so much. Anyways.... the song....

Life's soundtrack, Pt 2

A few more songs.

Some of these are ones that my friends from my high school years would definitely say reminds them of me.

Can't have forget this one. The Go-go's were one of my favs and I even tried to round up my friends to do a Go-go's song with me for an airband competition at our school.

And my collection could absolutely not be complete with this....

Journey and Steve Perry. Ah yes. The memories flood back. The crush I had on Steve Perry (his voice mostly) which become a small obsession once he released Oh Sherry. Of course he spelt it wrong, but I forgave him.

I think I wore out a couple of my Bryan Adams' cassettes. I wore out Cuts Like a Knife listening to the song The Best was Yet to Come over and over and over again. Then I wore out Reckless... especially listening to this song....

This song brings back memories of this intense crush I had on a boy I met while on a tour with the school band. We danced to this song. I never thought I would see him again. Then, first day of school, 12th grade.... who comes walking in the front door? It was Jim. I just about collapsed. LOL... I did finally tell him at our grad party. I'm sure the alcohol helped me find the nerves. As he sat and cuddled with his girlfriend, I sat down beside them and proceeded to tell him how I had crushed on him for months and months before and after he moved here. A light went off and he remembered our initial meeting almost 2 years before. He winked and said I should have told him sooner. I think his girlfriend, although she was smiling and laughing with us, secretly wanted to smack me. The next morning at the champagne breakfast, she made a point of talking to me all very friendly like. Which was humorous because she hadn't spoke to me once since she got that modelling contract 4 years prior. Silly high school girls.

Life's soundtrack, Pt 1

I had this very long and cool post that had like video clips and everything... when my browser crashed. AAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!

stupid stupid stupid

Why oh why, powers that be over blogland, can't I recover my post???

I'm so sad. It was great... about the eras of my life and the music that was my soundtrack through it all.... gone... bye bye....

waaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Going to try this... one era at a time. That way if it all crashes again... well, maybe I won't go completely insane and through my computer out the window.

Soooooo....

Oh the innocence

Music has an amazing ability to speak into people. It can bring up memories of specific events, feelings, people or attitudes. I think we all would have an easier time choosing the soundtrack for our life stories than we would actually telling the story. At least, I would.

Now, bypassing the early childhood years, where the only music that I remember is what my parents listened too, and I so do not want Johnny Cash, dolly Parton or the Beattles as the soundtrack for my tender years.

The first album that made its way into my collection was the Grease soundtrack. It was actually my brothers, but he listened to it once and gave it to me. I listened to it over and over. I wanted to be Olivia Newton-John. She was sooo pretty.

And I will never forget rollerskating with my friends to this song...

When highschool rolled around, my music taste changed quickly with whatever the big craze was. Who can forget 'valley girl' and 'madonna wanna-be's'. I liked a lot of different music, that was until I went into my "rocker" phase. The hair bands of the 80's are still bring back memories of hanging out in the 'smoke-hole' and thinking I was soooo tough! Def Leppard spent a lot of time on my 'ghetto-blaster', but this song was the anthem of that era of my life.

Fortunately, that phase wore off and my musical taste diversified somewhat, to include classic rock, pop, and new wave. The 80's was a decade of one hit wonders, but through it all, my favorite was Madonna. I still enjoy her early music. Her True Blue album was the soundtrack of my life for about two years. But, the one song that I listened to over and over and over... and over.... was this one. And, I swear, when I sang along, I sounded exactly like her. lol

As grad year rolled around, you could still find Madonna in my cassette player a lot. Pat Benatar was a staple all through my teen years. Toto, REO Speedwagon, Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears, AC/DC, Bryan Adams (many a tear was shed listening to his ballads over and over), Depeche Mode, Platinum Blonde, the Cars, the Outfield, the Smiths, Van Halen and so many more... were albums and or cassettes I acquired through the years. Glass Tiger was the definite feel good band of the 80's.

Does anyone other than me remember the Screaming Blue Messiahs? LOL... And The The... man I loved this tape. This song is the definitive soundtrack song for my last couple years of high school...

Along with...

What songs sould you include on your soundtrack?
Did any of these bring back some memories for you?

next time: part two - the 90's... scary indeed

I'm turning into one of those people....

You know the ones. Everything in lists. Everything written down. Everything accounted for. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not naturally inclined to this. It is not my personality to be, ummm, organized. And, ask me to find you a receipt or anything on a piece of paper, and it will create panic in me at the thought of having to search for it. ((side note... this is true at home, but when I was working, I always knew exactly where everything in my office was. Everything had a place. I am only disorganized at home))

I'm a calendar girl!!

All this is to tell you about my little friend, my calendar. I love my calendar. It looks like a great big day planner. It has a row for each day of the month and a column for each family member. However, there are only 5 columns, so V and I share. But really, its not likeI ever do anything without her and more certain is that she never does anything without me. So I have turned into one of those people who loves to turn the fresh page and start neatly writing in everyone's names and activities. The kids, have really become dependant on it. Especially my sunshine girl, who relies 100% on routine. Without it she is lost and more than a little cranky, I might add. I can really mess with the kids by putting things on the calendar, or by not putting things on there. Throws em right off. Brings out my inner sadist a little. heh.

Recently overheard: "How come there is hardly anything in my column. I'm going to start writing things in, like, take a shower, clean your room and stuff. Just so I can have a busy looking life too." Personally, I thought that was a GREAT idea... the clean your room part, cuz this child's room..... SCARY!!!

By the end of the month, the calendar is a big ol mess, at least to the untrained eye.

Coordinating with our monthly calendar is our weekly calendar on the fridge. Here you find meal plans, chore lists and extra reminders of important things. Beside that is the list of important phone numbers, like all the kids friends so I know who to call when they are MIA. Add to that our write on/wipe off boards for phone messages and notes, which in all honesty spend more time with the kids special brand of art on them than anything.

So..... am I growing up and becoming more organized through maturity?

HECK NO!!!

I just can't remember what the hey is going on 90% of the time so I rely on the writing it down, and it better have a permanent location, or I'll lose that too. Much like my mind. I'm still looking for that. Anyone seen it?

recently overheard

Been stuck in my head a lot lately. So many things spinning around in there and yet none of it wants to come out. I think... oh I should blog about that, but by the time I get to the computer, I don't feel like it anymore.

Recently overheard in my brain:

** 20 yr high school reunion next year!?!?! Can I really be that old? Have I accomplished anything I thought I would? Have I grown up? Have I changed? Do I want to go, if there is a reunion party? Do I care? **

** Could I have made a difference? Could have anyone? Why do I feel like I share in the responsability? I didn't make her choice. I reached out and she didnt reach back. Should I have tried harder? **

** Do they ever think of me, the way I think of them? Do they know that I love them and miss them? Will I reach out to them before it's too late. Will they reach back or are they lost forever? **

** Will they know, when I'm gone, that I did my very best for them? Do they know, now, how I would give up everything, even my life for theirs? **

** Am I a good wife? Mother? Friend? Daughter? Daughter-in-law? Sister? etc...? **

** Does anyone really care what was overheard in my brain? **

random thought stuff

  • pain, mostly. i have had constant headaches for weeks now. These aren't like the ones I used to get all the time. I'm really tired of always hurting.
  • I love my husband. He makes me dang happy. We went out last weekend on a date and had so much fun together. I wish everyone could have someone who they love spending time with, laughing with and talking with.
  • My kids keep me on my toes. There is always something going on, and often multiple things going on. the age spread of the kids makes for interesting family dynamics. Sometimes my headaches seem to appear around the same time that school is done for the day... hmmm... lol. Seriously, though, I couldnt ask for better kids. Tidier kids maybe. But, not better.
  • I miss my brother. (he lives far away and works way too much)
  • I love my friends. Kristi, Sharley, Liz, Mandy, Charity, Michelle, Jen. You all bring so much to my life and I hope you each know how deeply I love each of you. Then there are many other friends whom I may not know as intimately, but you also mean a lot to me. I miss you all when we are not together, and treasure the time that we do get to have.
  • I have mellowed over the last 5-6 years. I mean, really. I crochet now? What is up with that?
  • Life is not about all i can acheive, but about how well I have loved.
  • Making lifestyle changes with things like diet and excercise because I am getting old and fat, SUCK. No, I will not give up the creamer in my coffee!!! And HELL no, I will not give up my coffee.
  • People who think they know everything talk way too much. Sometimes it is better not to give your opinion. And just cause you are wearing a suit, doesnt make you smarter than me. ((I'm wearing a suit, too.... my birthday suit, you just can't see it))
  • It would be really nice to have a second vehicle for our family.
  • We are overwhelminly blessed with loving parents, supportive siblings and amazing in-laws and nieces and nephews. I miss you all when we are apart, but love you and pray for you all the time.
  • It would be really nice to have our own home, that we can do things with and not get told what we can and can't do with it. (mostly can'ts... plthplth)
  • I am most happy and content when D and all the kids are home and we are just hanging out.
  • My Lord and saviour will return and we will all see the truth.
  • I don't like spiders. Not even a little bit. I used to try and not kill them (thanks to living with Kristi who is all "don't kill it, it has feelings too" and I agreed for the most part), but dang it, those eight legged creatures have an entire world to live in. If they decide to come into my territory, it is war, and I WILL win. ((Sorry Kristi, I will try to never kill them in front of you))
  • I am not scared of bees and wasps. (not sure when that happened, maybe Will has something to do with it.) Hornets, though.... still freak me out.
  • Rats living in our garage piss me off. Our garage is clean and there is nothing for them to eat.. so shove off you four legged leaches.
  • Loving to cook has become a part of who I am. I love to put together a meal and have my family and friends enjoy eating. If you don't like something I made, please don't tell me. lol
  • Eating doritos and drinking red wine bring D and I so many memories. I plan to almost always have a bag of doritos and a bottle of good red wine in the house.
  • My kids make me smile, a lot. There is nothing like laughing with your kids.
  • My husband makes me smile, a lot. He can also make me get "the look". the kids usually clear out when I get "the look". But eventually, it comes back to me smiling.
  • Life is good.
